National Commission for Women

राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग की स्थापना जनवरी 1992 में सांविधिक निकाय के रूप में की गई थी National Commission for Women Act, 1990 (Act No.20 of 1990 of Govt.of India) to review the Constitutional and legal safeguards for women; recommend remedial legislative measures, facilitate redressal of grievances and advise the Government on all policy matters affecting women.

संक्षिप्‍त इतिहास
भारत में महिलाओं की स्‍थिति पर समिति (सीएसडब्‍ल्‍यूआई) ने लगभग दो दश्‍क पहले ही महिलाओं की शिकायतों के निवारण को सुकर बनाने और उनके सामाजिक-आर्थिक विकास की गति को बढ़ाने के लिए निगरानी के कार्यों को पूरा करने के लिए राष्‍ट्रीय महिला आयोग के गठन की अनुशंसा की थी।

• राष्‍ट्रीय महिला भावी योजना (1988-2000) सहित अनुक्रमिक समितियों / आयोगों / योजनाओं ने महिलाओं हेतु सर्वोच्‍च निकाय गठित करने की अनुशंसा की।
• वर्ष 1990 के दौरान, केंद्र सरकार ने गठित किए जाने वाले प्रस्‍तावित आयोग की संरचना, कृत्‍यों, शक्‍तियों आदि के बारे में गैर-सरकारी संगठनों, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं एवं विशेषज्ञों के साथ परामर्श बैठकें आयोजित कीं।
• मई, 1990 में, विधेयक को लोक सभा में पुर:स्‍थापित किया गया।
• जुलाई 1990 में, मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय ने विधेयक के बारे में सुझाव प्राप्‍त करने के लिए राष्‍ट्र स्‍तरीय सम्‍मेलन आयोजित किया। अगस्‍त, 1990 में सरकार अनेक संशोधन लाई और आयोग को सिविल न्‍यायालय की शक्‍तियां प्रदान करने के नए उपबंध पुर:स्‍थापित किए।
• विधेयक पारित हुआ और 30 अगस्त, 1990 को राष्‍ट्रपति की स्‍वीकृति मिली।
• The First Commission was constituted on 31st January 1992 with Mrs. Jayanti Patnaik as the Chairperson. The Second Commission was constituted on July 1995 with Dr. (Mrs.) Mohini Giri as the Chairperson. The Third Commission was constituted on January 1999 with Mrs. Vibha Parthasarathy as the Chairperson. The Fourth Commission was constituted on January 2002 and the government had nominated Dr. Poornima Advani as the Chairperson. The Fifth Commission was constituted on February 2005 Dr. Girija Vyas as the Chairperson. The sixth Commission was constituted on August 2011 with Mrs. Mamta Sharma as the Chairperson. The seventh commission has been constituted in 2014 with Ms. Lalitha Kumaramanglam as Chairperson.
